Bach wrote more music that ordinary players actually use than any other composer, which is why this catalogue holds over 17,000 entries under his name. He spent his career as a working church and court musician, producing to deadline, and almost none of it was published in his lifetime.
For keyboard players the entry points are the Notebook for Anna Magdalena and the Little Preludes, both genuinely playable within a few years of starting. The Two-Part Inventions come next, then the Well-Tempered Clavier, which is a lifetime's work rather than a stage to pass through. String players meet him through the solo suites and partitas; singers and choirs through the cantatas, Passions and the B minor Mass.
Editions matter here more than for most composers. Bach notated sparingly — little dynamic marking, inconsistent articulation, ornaments left to convention — so every edition is an interpretation. A nineteenth-century performing edition, which is what most free scans are, will hand you a fully marked page reflecting a style of playing that has since been substantially revised. For anything you intend to perform, a modern urtext is worth the outlay.

Es ist und bleibt der Christen Trost
Nichts kann mich erretten
Meinem Hirten blieb ich treu
Auf, auf mit hellem Schall
H?rt, ihr Augen, auf zu weinen
BWV 1051
Jesu, la
Des Vaters Stimme lie
Ewigkeit, du machst mir
Stein, der ?ber alle Sch?tze
Mein Verlangen
Wohl euch, ihr auserw?hlten Seelen
Merke, mein Herze, best?ndig nur
Heil und Segen soll und mu
Saget, saget mir geschwinde
Ach, schlage doch bald
Auf, auf Gl?ubige
Mein Jesu, ziehe mich nach dir
Kommt, ihr angefochten S?nder
Die Armen will der Herr umarmen
Wie lieblich klingt es in den Ohren
Du machst, o Tod
Mein Jesus soll mein Alles sein
Ich will leiden
Jesus soll mein erstes Wort
Seht, was die Liebe tut
Sanfte soll mein Todeskummer
Gott, man lobt dich in der Stille
Mein Jesus will es tun
Achzen und erb?rmlich Weinen
Wo zwei unf drei versammlet sind
Ich s?e meine Z?hren mit bangem Herzen
Weh! Der Seele, weh
Man halte nur ein wenig
Komm, leite mich
S?
Nimm mich dir zu eigen
Begl?ckte Herde, Jesu Schafe
Auch mit feudig euch empor
Leg ich mich sp?te nieder
Wie furchtsam wankten meine Schritte
O sel'ger Christ
Die Seele ruht in Jesu H?nden
Domine Fili Unigenite
St?rmt nur, st?rmt
Meine Seufzer, meine Tr?nen
Ihr Menschen, r?hmet
Welch ?berma
